  故事發生在1080年的西班牙,彼時的西班牙并沒有統一,而是分為三個互不干涉彼此國家政務的小國。盧利歌(查爾登·海斯頓 Charlton Heston 飾)因為暗中放走了國王卡斯提爾下令處死的摩爾人酋長而遭到了國王的厭惡。在一場意外之中,盧利歌不小心殺死了未婚妻吉米娜(索 菲婭·羅蘭 Sophia Loren 飾)的父親,導致兩人的情感破裂。  不久之后,盧利歌所在的國家遭到了別國的侵略,盧利歌奮起反擊保護自己祖國領土的完整,最終將敵人擊退。然而壞事成雙,卡斯提爾的去世讓兩名王子阿爾福斯(約翰·弗拉瑟 John Fraser 飾)和桑科(加里·雷蒙德 Gary Raymond 飾)開始爭奪王位,好不容易恢復的和平再一次遭到破壞。

  19世紀末的西班牙巴塞羅那,阿圖爾·普拉特(塞爾吉·馬特烏 Sergi Mateu 飾)經營著慈父望遠鏡行,他事業有成,家境富裕,但是愛女喬安娜(芭芭拉·格娜加 Bárbara Goenaga 飾)因出生時患有腦炎,因此自幼罹患了一種極為罕見的病癥——失認癥(agnosia)。這種病癥讓她在身體各個感官都健全的情況下,無法順利地認知周遭的人與物。  阿圖爾長久以來都在努力尋找治好女兒的辦法,而他所掌握的商業機密也都成為同行乃至合作伙伴急欲得到的珍寶。父親臨終之際,將商業機密托付給了喬安娜。與此同時,愛情與誘惑接連降臨,而在這份看似浪漫的追求背后,利欲熏心的人們用無情卑鄙的手段傷害著無助的喬安娜……

杰弗里(凱爾·麥克拉克倫 Kyle MacLachlan 飾)為了照料父親而回到了久違的家鄉小鎮,哪知道在誤打誤撞之中令一場兇殺案件浮出水面,杰弗里就此結識了負責調查此案的警察威廉斯(喬治·迪克森 George Dickerson 飾),以及他的女兒桑迪(勞拉·鄧恩 Laura Dern 飾)。桑迪告訴杰弗里,時間的真相或許和一個名叫多蘿西(伊莎貝拉·羅西里尼 Isabella Rossellini 飾)的歌女有關。  美麗神秘的多蘿西很快就令杰弗里失去了理智,他偷偷的潛入了多蘿西家中,恰巧發現了多蘿西正在被一個名為弗蘭克(丹尼斯·霍珀 Dennis Hopper 飾)的黑幫大佬虐待的事實。此時的杰弗里才開始意識到,在自己的視線范圍之外,發生著很多黑暗而又罪惡的可怕之事。

  Set in an underground dungeon inhabited by bundled, ragged human beings, after the nuclear holocaust. The story follows the wanderings of a hero through the situations of survival. People wait for the Ark to arrive and rescue them while their habitat falls apart.  Delving deep into the dusty and long abandonded vaults of b-cinema in search of lost gems always leaves me with a bittersweet taste. On one hand the discovery of unexpected gems where no one would think them possible is a rewarding experience. On the other hand though it makes one wonder how many of these remarkable low-budget oddities, personal love affairs of directors never quite famous and now all but forgotten, have almost forever slipped from memory?  n any case what we have here is a little post-apocalyptic gem from Poland that is really better than it has any right to. The dystopian near future of O-BI, O-BA finds a group of survivors of the nuclear war that ravaged the Earth inhabiting an underworld concrete bunker and biding their time as they wait for the mysterious Ark, an air ship of some kind that will come and save them. The Ark proves to be an elaborate hoax, carefully designed to give hope to the malnourished and desperate denizens of the bunker, while in the meantime the dome that separates their miserable existence from the nuclear winter outside is slowly caving in.  What first striked me about the movie is the design of the bunker and the depiction of the survivors. The survivors are gaunt, filthy and terrible-looking penitents, dressed in rags and aimlessly wandering the neon-lit halls of the bunker like automatons. The bunker is a rundown, seedy place, with bright neon lights peering from all sides like the eyes of malignant beasts.  On one hand it is a slightly 80's depiction of the dystopian future but the movie never stoops down to MAD MAX cheese. Instead it combines biting political satire with the bleak outlook of a world with no future, black comedy with barbs on apathy, religion and power. The survivors, for example, are fed some kind of flour dropping from a tube that hovers in the air - later on we discover the food supervisor uses books and the Bible itself as filler for this meagre meal. There are many such short symbolic touches, perhaps not life-changing or faith-restoring, yet playful, clever and inspired.  One thing is for sure; O-BI, O-BA is not your run-of-the-mill sci-fi schlock. It overcomes its modest budget with creativity and has genuine artistic aspirations both from a writing and directing perspective. My opinion is that it should have been filmed in black and white instead of colour though. The director uses atmospheric light and shadow to great effect and it would have registered even better in stark black and white. The blue-green neon on the other hand outstays its welcome after a while. Just a minor gripe in an otherwise solid b-movie with its heart set in all the right places.  Imagine a less bleak THE ROAD (Cormac McCarthy) being injected with the satire and humour of DR.STRANGELOVE and you're getting there. See it if you can find it.
