But Soriya’s waking hours in the apartment and its surroundings are punctuated by terrifying, bloody visions, almost as though she were a conduit for horrors of the past wanting to seep into the present.　　Inrasothythep Neth and Sokyou Chea’s blood-chilling psychological horror explores a personal and political past through the present, transforming a characterful space into an insidious environment. Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.

　　故事開始于明朝，鳳三（元華 飾）心腸歹毒，無惡不作，身為錦衣衛，同時又是鳳三的師弟，方守正（元彪 飾）發誓要將鳳三繩之于法。然而，鳳三此人詭計多端，甚至想要偷取能夠扭轉時空的黑玉佛，借此逃脫法網，幾番爭斗之后，兩人雙雙跌落山崖。　　時光荏苒，轉眼已是現代，考古隊在雪地中挖掘出了鳳三和方守正被冰封住的尸體，將兩人運往美國研究，然而，途中一場意外卻令兩人死而復生。方守正于機緣巧合之下遇見了名為阿玉（張曼玉 飾）的不良少女，陰差陽錯的成為了她的保鏢，而鳳三不改奸邪本性，加入了黑社會，繼續為非作歹。當方守正得知鳳三依舊作惡多端后，他決定繼續自己未完成的使命。
