導演李翰祥繼《梁祝》之後的又一力作。由李翰祥創立的國聯公司與臺灣省電影製片廠合作拍制的歷史巨片，動用港臺兩地精英合作，拍攝勾踐複國的故事。本片在製作及宣傳上不遺餘力，耗資巨大，演職員陣寵大，製作不惜工本。從開鏡到完成，整整歷時十四個月。本片反映的主題有一定的文化統戰，政治宣傳意味濃厚。製作進行期間一波三折，卒於1965年完成。此片曾以上下兩集發行，後剪輯成另一較短版本，主要演員有江青﹑趙雷﹑朱牧﹑洪波等港臺兩地精英。

　　在喜瑪拉雅山長大的亞星（鄭中基）練有一身瑜伽好功夫，某日奉父母之命下山參加印度西施家族舉辦的瑜伽選夫比賽的途中，被恨嫁的大家姐（應采兒）纏住。為了阻止亞星參加比賽，大家姐想出把他變成人見人厭的壞小子的狠招，不想聯合三大惡人也沒能將亞星改變，不甘心之下，大家姐又找來以壞混世的大膽叔叔（吳鎮宇）。　　可惜大膽叔叔與朋友驚青舅父（劉青云）及其兩個外甥已不幸被印度催眠術催眠，連自己是誰都不再曉得，然而亞星總算找到了領門人，賭場的兩頭神蛇把他教成了沉迷于賭博和吸毒的壞小子，此時，大家姐發現還是原來的亞星比較好，決定陪其一同喝下“印度神奇油”回到從前。

But Soriya’s waking hours in the apartment and its surroundings are punctuated by terrifying, bloody visions, almost as though she were a conduit for horrors of the past wanting to seep into the present.　　Inrasothythep Neth and Sokyou Chea’s blood-chilling psychological horror explores a personal and political past through the present, transforming a characterful space into an insidious environment. Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.
